Turn a circuit into a board layout
Students who want to understand how schematic connections become copper traces can start here. The course is useful alongside microcontroller learning or when a student project needs a custom board.
The course is beginner friendly. Basic circuit symbols, power and ground, and component identification will help you follow the design flow. Discuss your electronics background before joining.
Your ten-module syllabus
- M01PCB Design Flow & Fabrication Overview
- M02EasyEDA Introduction & Component Libraries
- M03Schematic Capture — Drawing Your Circuit
- M04Footprint Assignment & Netlist Export
- M05PCB Layout: Component Placement Strategy
- M06Routing: Manual & Interactive Routing
- M07Power Planes, Ground Pours & Vias
- M08Design Rule Check (DRC) & ERC
- M09Gerber Files, BOM & Ordering from Fab Houses
- M10Capstone Project: Design an ESP32 Dev Board
Follow the design through to manufacturing files
The capstone is the design of an ESP32 development board. Work follows the schematic-to-layout flow: assign footprints, place parts, route connections, inspect power and ground, run checks and generate fabrication files.
- Create a schematic and select appropriate component symbols and footprints.
- Place and route a PCB while checking connectivity and design rules.
- Explain the roles of ground pours, power planes and vias.
- Export Gerber files and a bill of materials for review.
Know what to bring and what to ask
The original course lists ten sessions and two full boards. Ask whether fabrication, assembly, components or physical boards are included in your batch fee before ordering anything.
